POTAS: Türkiye’s new key player in aviation fuel

POTAS aligns itself with the broader environmental goals of both the aviation sector and Turkey’s national development strategy

Established in 2023, POTAS Akdeniz Akaryakıt Dağıtım A.Ş. (POTAS) operates as a joint venture between ATS Antalya Akaryakıt Dağıtım A.Ş. and Petrol Ofisi A.Ş. The company is mandated to serve as the designated jet fuel provider for Fraport TAV Antalya Airport and to oversee all aspects of jet fuel management related to the airport’s expansion project. Three years down the line, the company has emerged as a key player in Turkey’s aviation energy sector, making headlines with its robust new operations at Antalya Airport, one of the most strategic tourism and aviation gateways in the region.

In 2025, Antalya Airport served around 39 million passengers, solidifying its status as one of the busiest airports in both Turkey and Europe. It plays a vital role in the country’s international air traffic. In the process, it set the stage for a total aviation fuel storage capacity of 150,000 cubic metres over the course of its concession period.

POTAS’ mission goes beyond refuelling aircraft. Through its work on the Antalya Airport Expansion Project, the company aims to support global air travel, operational stability, and industry growth. Its vision is to be the leading, most reliable, and customer-focused firm in the aviation fuel industry by offering high-quality, sustainable solutions that help the sector meet its carbon neutrality targets.

Recently, Global Business Outlook (GBO) named POTAS as the “Best New Aviation Fuel Management Company – Türkiye 2025.”

Sharing his excitement about winning the award, POTAS CEO Hüseyin Hilmi Aslanoğlu said, “Being honoured with the Global Business Awards 2025 is a powerful affirmation of the work we’re doing at POTAS. Within just a year of launching operations at Antalya Airport, we have achieved critical milestones in storage capacity, pipeline expansion, and digital fuel management. This recognition reflects the commitment of our team, the strength of our partnerships, and our shared belief in a sustainable, high-performance aviation future. We’re proud to support one of Europe’s busiest airports with world-class fuelling infrastructure and grateful to Global Business Outlook for highlighting our journey.”

Building A High-Capacity, Tech-Driven Fuel Ecosystem

POTAS’ operations are defined by cutting-edge infrastructure, designed to meet the growing demands of both domestic and international airlines. One of the company’s most ambitious undertakings is the expansion of underground hydrant pipelines at Antalya Airport, aimed at enabling faster, safer, and more efficient aircraft refuelling across the apron area—streamlining logistics while minimising environmental impact.

“As part of this project, approximately 26 kilometres of hydrant pipelines have been constructed to supply fuel directly to aircraft on the apron. The system has now been fully commissioned and is operational. With our advanced technological infrastructure, commitment to sustainability, and strong operational capacity, we continue to support Antalya Airport in its transformation into a world-class aviation hub,” POTAS CEO Hüseyin Hilmi Aslanoğlu said to Global Business Outlook.

POTAS is also integrating advanced digital systems into its fuel management operations—enabling real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and accurate tracking.

“These are critical capabilities in an industry where safety, precision, and reliability are paramount,” Aslanoğlu added.

Sustainability As A Core Value

POTAS’ commitment to sustainability goes beyond operational efficiency. The company aligns itself with the broader environmental goals of both the aviation sector and Turkey’s national development strategy.

Initiatives include optimising energy use, reducing carbon emissions through improved logistics, and laying the groundwork for handling sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the future.

“Our approach to sustainability is proactive, not reactive. We are designing systems today that will serve the clean energy needs of tomorrow’s aviation industry,” Aslanoğlu noted.

Strategic Location For Global Reach

Operating from Antalya, POTAS enjoys the advantages of a rapidly growing aviation hub with immense international significance. As a major tourist destination and a logistical link between Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, its location gives POTAS a strategic advantage.

POTAS’s fuel farm expansion is a direct response to the increasing demand at Antalya Airport, which primarily serves international flights (over 90%). The vibrant activity at Antalya Airport allows POTAS to serve a diverse range of aviation customers, accommodating both budget and premium international airlines.

“The primary focus of our operational activities is to ensure that the procurement of Jet A-1 fuel and other inputs from local or international sources, their transfer to POTAS Antalya Air Supply Facility, and their subsequent delivery to end users is conducted in a cost-effective and timely manner, with strict adherence to international standards and legal regulations, maintaining stringent quality assurance, preserving environmental integrity, and ensuring compliance with technical safety rules,” Aslanoğlu noted.

As Antalya Airport continues its trajectory toward becoming a world-class aviation centre, POTAS is scaling with it, developing technical capacity, investing in workforce training, and exploring strategic partnerships. The company’s long-term goal is to become a benchmark in the aviation fuel industry, not just in Türkiye, but across the broader Mediterranean and Eurasian corridors. Backed by strong parent companies and an ambitious vision, POTAS is shaping the future of flight.
