Weekends usually start on Fridays but in London on Thursday, office workers opt to go to the bars, pubs, and restaurants which are situated in central London. According to them, Thursday is the new Friday.
With things getting back to normal, people are not commuting to work every day. Instead, many are opting to travel to their workplaces during the main days of the week — Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
The sudden popularity of people socializing on Thursdays hasn’t got quite unnoticed by the hospitality businesses. Phil Urban, the chief executive of a pub and restaurant group, Mitchells and Butlers, said that although the suburban economy is still thriving, folks who would normally have a lunch or a pint at home are now doing so in London.
In order to lure people back into the office, many businesses had to announce perks that included unlimited hot drinks, free breakfasts, or merchandise with the company’s logo on it.
Despite these incentives, the return to work has been more trickle than a flood. According to Transport for London, the number of passengers on the tube over the week has remained at 70% of pre-Covid levels.
As per TfL data, Thursday is considered one of the most preferred days to work with coworkers. On Thursday, May 12th, nearly 3 million tube travels were made, the most significant number since the outbreak began.
