Abu Dhabi offers flexible insurance for entrepreneurs, investors

Abu Dhabi has been able to enhance community members' access to healthcare services and raise the levels of competitiveness among healthcare providers in the emirate

In response to the expanding market demands and to strengthen the emirate’s position as a desirable travel destination, Abu Dhabi has launched flexible health insurance solutions for business owners and investors who wish to settle in the kingdom and do business there.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Health (DoH) and the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) worked together to offer new insurance options.

Community members, including expatriates living in the emirate and working in the private sector, are covered by the flexible health insurance policy if their monthly salary exceeds AED 5,000. The family of the resident expatriate and their employees not covered by employer-provided health insurance are included in this policy as well, along with the investors having free business licenses, and their families (government/private).

By a statement from the Abu Dhabi Media Office, therapy treatments costing AED 150,000 annually are covered by insurance. In addition, the insurance offers 100% emergency coverage, a 20% fee for all outpatient treatment services, and 30% copay for prescription drugs. The program also allows patients to upgrade their insurance coverage to meet their needs.

Dr Mariam Al Mazrouei, Executive Director of the Healthcare Payers Sector at the Abu Dhabi Department of Health, said, “The insurance plan was established to offer a health insurance package that boosts sector competition while luring firms from the private sector.”

This is in light of what Abu Dhabi symbolizes as a top location for those looking to build their enterprises across various industries, thanks to its cutting-edge infrastructure and incentive programs.

When the current health insurance policy is about to run out, businesses/people thinking about switching to “flexible options” should contact health insurance providers to find out more. Then, if the eligibility requirements are satisfied, they should apply for “flexible health insurance,” according to the DoH.

Since the health insurance launch in 2005 under Abu Dhabi Law No. (23) and it’s executive regulations, Abu Dhabi has been able to enhance community members’ access to healthcare services and raise the levels of competitiveness among healthcare providers in the emirate, thus improving the service quality and consolidating the kingdom’s position as a leading healthcare destination in the world.
