Denmark-based shipping major UltraShip to deploy FOS for its vessels

The contract between UltraShip and Wartsila Voyage was signed in the fourth quarter last year and the solution is expected to be deployed by this year’s second quarter

Denmark-based shipping major UltraShip will deploy Fleet Operations Solution (FOS) produced by Wartsila Voyage for the development of its entire fleet of 18 LPG tanker vessels.

It is reported that the new solution will pave the path for UltraShip to cost control while ramping up safety by automatically optimising the route and speed of the vessel. The solution will also deliver the latest and updated voyage data to the onshore and offshore personnel associated with the vessel.

The contract between UltraShip and Wartsila Voyage was signed in the fourth quarter last year and the solution is expected to be deployed by this year’s second quarter. Wartsila Voyage will refurbish the ship’s onboard electronic chart display and information systems (ECDIS) to support the FOS, as part of the contract.

Alex Van Knotsenborg, Global Sales Director at Wartsila Voyage, told the media, “Efficiency is central to everything in today’s marine business, and the efficiency of voyage planning, tracking, management, and reporting is considerably enhanced with the Wartsila FOS. The technology digitally connects the ships to their shore base, eases navigation, and supports the crew in selecting the optimal route.”

The FOS is a combination of individual processes. The solution is powered by a platform that integrates the ship’s planning station and ECDIS through the cloud, ML and data analytics and mobile applications. The solution also connects the vessel to its port, manager and operator.

The pandemic has walloped the shipping industry like any other sector. However, the situation is expected to be good this year.
