Etisalat extends partnership with Ericsson to spur 5G deployment

The new partnership will pave the way for Etisalat to monetise on next-gen services such as 5G

Etisalat, an Abu Dhabi-based telecom, has extended its strategic partnership with Ericsson to boost the UAE’s  5G network ambitions, media reports said. It is reported that Etisalat will use the charging system and 5G business support systems (BSS) of Ericsson for the development development.

Both the companies are collaborating on digital infrastructure to enable 5G use and business cases, as part of the deal.

The new partnership will pave the way for Etisalat to monetise on next-gen services such as 5G in gaming, augmented reality and much more. Furthermore, other innovations will spur by taking the advantage of 5G network’s low-latency and ultra-high broadband speeds.

Ekow Nelson, VP and head of Global Customer Unit Etisalat at Ericsson, told the media, “Ericsson Charging will be deployed across Etisalat UAE’s entire network. A dedicated Ericsson Charging and Policy Solution will also be implemented utilizing Ericsson’s cloud-native, microservices Charging Access Function (CAF) which is a new access component within the 5G Service Based Interface (SBI).”

Etisalat UAE’s entire network will be powered by Ericsson Charging as part of the partnership. The company will also use a dedicated charging and policy solution.

The Ericsson’s online charging system will enable Etisalat users to curb their costs through flexible packaging, bonuses and discounts.

The new development indicates the emirate’s intention to become one of the top notched 5G powered nations. Other Asian countries are seeking to launch 5G and one of them is India.
