Nigeria establishes 40KWP solar mini-grid project

The 40kW Solar PV power plant is equipped with mono crystalline solar panels and hybrid inverter

The government of Nigeria has established a 40KWP solar mini-grid project in the state of Niger to bolster electrification in the region. The project is designed to provide safe, clean and effective energy to communities living in the state.

The people are expected to witness a socio-economic change because of the availability of premium energy provided in partnership with the private segment. It is reported that the 40kW Solar PV power plant is equipped with mono crystalline solar panels, hybrid inverter, deep cycle storage batteries and wireless IoT -based metering system

Managing Director, Rural Electrification Agency (REA), told the media, “The programme would aid more equitable access to electricity across regions, while maximising the economic, social and environmental benefits of rural electrification subsidies. Through the Rural Electrification Fund (REF) , we have continued to promote expansion of the grid and development of off-grid electrification as mandated by the federal government of Nigeria. This solar hybrid mini-grid in Goton Sarki is designed to serve this community while also stimulating productive use amongst community members. I encourage the great people of this community to explore and optimise the usage of this system to help develop this community even better.”

The energy supply to millions of Nigerian citizens through off-grid solutions is vital for the government. The ultimate aim for the government is to provide social and economic benefits and improve the living standards for people across the nation. There are many African economies still struggling to access sufficient  electricity.
