Novo Nordisk to setup new facility in China, invests $30.5 mn

The company’s new unit will focus on marketing, pharmaceutical R&D, imports and distribution of finished goods

The Chinese healthcare segment is thriving amid the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, media reports said. It is reported that strong demand for high-quality medical facilities, implementation of cutting-edge technologies into the medical field and many other factors are boosting the Chinse healthcare segment for the next big leap.

Furthermore, China’s quick response to economic recovery has made it one of the most striking investment destinations in the global healthcare industry.

Denmark-based healthcare company Novo Nordisk will invest $30.5 million to set up a new facility at the Shanghai free-trade zone. The company made the announcement at an event known as China International Import Expo in November. It is reported that the company’s new unit will focus on marketing, pharmaceutical R&D, imports and distribution of finished goods including exploration of several market segments.

The company aims to partner with 20 hospitals across China to build bases for clinical trials by 2021 end.

Christine Zhou, senior vice-president of Novo Nordisk and president of its China arm, told the media, “The company is confident of its promising future in China, especially as China has become the first major economy reporting a fast rebound after it controlled the spread of COVID-19 effectively. The Chinese economy shows strong resilience and great potential, and the country’s resolute efforts in intellectual property rights protection and deepening opening-up and reforms, together with its support for globalization, have combined to improve its business environment. The deepening of reforms in the healthcare sector has been creating unprecedented opportunities for pharmaceutical companies, making China one of the most attractive healthcare markets in the world for multinational companies.”
