The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ministry of energy will install small-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems across the country to boost the use of solar energy. The new development will pave the path for consumers to generate solar-based electrical energy from their residents and connect it to the national power grid seamlessly.
The ministry of energy, told the media, “The economic feasibility of installing a small solar PV system will be studied while determining the estimated costs and procedures for safe connection to the network, and the approved specifications for this type of system. The project includes the launch of the Shamsi portal dedicated to the small-scale solar PV system, through the Water & Electricity Regulatory Authority, while the rest of the other government agencies assume their regular responsibilities, each according to their respective competencies and in line with the regulatory framework for small solar PV systems.
It is reported that the Shamsi portal will provide information related to the installation cost of the solar energy system and economic feasibility of the system, before connecting it to the national grid. The portal will also allow consumers to calculate the technical and financial aspects of the installation process through an electronic calculator and also provide other support services.
The government’s initiative towards solar energy use will bolster the Kingdom’s renewable energy establishment goals for the future. The Kingdom’s solar energy future is bright due to its geographical advantages including the weather.
