YouTube Premium introduces new features

YouTube has improved the 'sharing experience' when viewing videos.

Google-owned YouTube’s Premium service now has access to a variety of new features, including improved video quality for web and iOS users.

The service support for watching films with a friend on FaceTime via Apple’s SharePlay, and additional controls for queue management on mobile devices.

In order to provide its Premium subscribers with an even better video quality experience, the firm will roll out an improved bitrate version of 1080p HD video quality starting on iOS. This service will also come on the web, the company said.

“While all users will still have access to 1080p, this enhanced 1080p quality setting will look extra crisp and clear, especially for videos with lots of detail and motion,” YouTube said in a blog post.

The company also introduced a feature which will provide more controls for those users who like to jump from one video to another while using YouTube.

“Today, for Premium members, we are expanding queuing to phones and tablets, giving you complete control over what you’re watching,” YouTube said.

Additionally, the company has improved the ‘sharing experience’ when viewing YouTube videos. Premium users can organise Google Meet sessions where everyone in attendance, whether they are Premium or free users, can watch YouTube videos together through Meet Live Sharing on Android devices.

The company will also make this experience available to iOS FaceTime users via SharePlay in the upcoming weeks.

The video-sharing platform has added a feature that enables users to return to YouTube across devices without being interrupted. The premium subscribers may now pick up where they left off while switching between devices and continue watching videos.

The function is currently accessible on Android, iOS, and the web.

The company also unveiled a feature that would maintain the YouTube experience even when users are offline.

‘With Smart Downloads, while you’re connected to Wi-Fi, we automatically add recommended videos straight to your library, ready for offline viewing,” the company stated.

Users will be able to view videos whenever and wherever they choose, and they’ll also be able to find new content without having to search thanks to this feature.
