Freight trains in two ports via Xinjiang hit record levels in 2021

Those two ports have handled a total of 11,500 inbound and outbound China-Europe freight trains

Two ports in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region recently announced that they have reached record levels in 2021 after handling a total of 11,500 inbound and outbound China-Europe freight trains, according to media reports. Inbound and outbound China-Europe freight trains coming through Alashankou Port have reached a record high, going up by 17.5 percent year on year. Additionally, Horgos Port has exceeded 6,000 trains with port throughput and registered 27 percent and 38.1 percent year on year, respectively.

Additionally, data also showed that t the number of trains launched by Horgos Port has increased almost ten times in the last five years. Till now, the China-Europe freight trains have covered over 20 countries including Germany, Poland, Russia, and Belgium. They have handled more than 200 kinds of goods such as automobiles and related parts, clothes, general merchandise, electronic products and mechanical accessories.

In other news, 73 China-Europe freight lines have reached 174 cities of 23 European countries and its logistics distribution network has covered the entire Eurasia, according to an announcement made by 3 European countries, while the logistics distribution network has covered entire Eurasia, said Meng Wei, spokesperson for National Development and Reform Commission.

Keeping the Covid-19 pandemic in mind, China-European freight trains will be equipped with unique advantages of international railway intermodal transport. It will also oversee the transfer of goods by sea and air and play a key role in trying to stabilise the international supply and industry chains.

Additionally, the monthly operations of China-European freight trains has surpassed 1,300 for the fourth consecutive month, with 128,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) being transported. It is the 16th consecutive month that more than 1,000 China-European freight trains have been operated since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
