British Airways has replaced its current CEO Alex Cruz as the pandemic has hampered the airline’s business across the globe. It is reported that Sean Doyle will serve as the new CEO of the company.
Mr. Alex Cruz served the company for four and a half years, while Mr. Sean Doyle was the boss of Aer Lingus, a subsidiary of International Consolidated Airlines. British Airways has been criticised for 12,000 job cuts due to the pandemic. Furthermore, the airlines’ recorded an operating loss of $4.77 billion in the first quarter while passenger traffic slumped 95 percent in the second quarter compared to a year earlier.
The airline has decided to cut travel schedule from this month after the government of the UK imposed stringent restrictions on travel after a surge of fresh Covid-19 infection.
British Airways, told the media, “Our focus is on keeping crucial air links open – bringing home the thousands of customers currently abroad, transporting vital goods, and ensuring people who are permitted to travel in and out of the UK for work, education and other reasons stipulated by the UK Government, can continue to do so.”
Major airlines across the world have been hurt by the pandemic on the back of the government-imposed travel restrictions and concerns about the safety of air travel.
