Five telecoms will carry out new development in Kenya

The move which is a part of the Communications Authority of Kenya CA will cater to Kenya’s unserved and under-served areas lacking communication services

Five telecom majors will launch cellular mobile network infrastructure and services across Kenya. The development was confirmed by the Communications Authority of Kenya CA.

The move which is a part of the Communications Authority of Kenya CA will cater to Kenya’s unserved and under-served areas lacking communication services. The five companies which secured contracts from CA are Alan Dick & Company, Seal Towers, Kenya Operations, American Towers, Airtel Networks and Safaricom.

The companies will launch telecom services in the sub-locations spread across these regions: West Pokot, Narok, Mandera, Tana River, Wajir, Lamu, Turkana, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Garrissa, Isiolo, Samburu, Kajiado, Kilifi ,Kitui, Laikipia and Marsabit Counties. The five companies have outstripped 11 others to bag the contract for the project.

The new development will pave the path for phase 2 of the voice infrastructure and services project aimed at bolstering broadband and voice connectivity in the beneficiary regions.

Mrs. Mercy Wanjau, the CA Ag. Director-General, told the media, “With the additional 101-sub locations earmarked in the second phase, the Authority intends to narrow the gap of those unserved and under-served areas in Kenya by the year 2022. Kenyans residing in the areas where these projects have been rolled out can now communicate with the external world. More importantly, the projects have expanded digital financial inclusion, enhanced governance through an improved flow of information from government to the citizenry and vice versa.”

Kenya’s telecom infrastructure has been steadily developing in recent times. However, the new development is expected to change the country’s telecom scenario
