Saudi to launch Digital Cooperation Organisation for digital growth

DCO will bolster cooperation across all innovation-driven segments and fasten digital economy growth

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has partnered with four other Asian nations to roll out a new global organisation known as Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO), media reports said. It is reported that DCO will bolster cooperation across all innovation-driven segments and fasten digital economy growth.

The other four countries along with the Kingdom are Pakistan, Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain. Furthermore, the organisation will also bolster the partnerships among member economies as they adapt to a global economy driven by technological innovations.

The organisation was unveiled in a digital event this week. The event was attended by famed personalities such as Houlin Zhao, International Telecommunication Union Secretary-General and Borge Brende, President of the World Economic Forum.

The Kingdom’s minister of communications and information technology, Abdullah Al-Swaha, told the media,  “We are joining hands together toward a commitment to drive consensus on digital cooperation to make sure that we seize an opportunity for our youth, our women and our entrepreneurs with the ambition to grow our combined digital economy to $1 trillion in the next three to five years. Our future prosperity will depend on the digital economy, but it can only reach its full potential if we are able to make governments work together collectively with businesses and entrepreneurs so they can survive and thrive, expand their depth into current markets and open doors for everyone into new ones.”

Mr Abdullah Al-Swaha also focused on the importance of development and the requirement of working together to bolster the digital economy. The key members of the counties also discussed the future of the digital economy including economic growth in the event
