Total Solar Distributed Generation (DG), a subsidiary of Total, has signed a deal with Singapore LNG (SLNG) to establish a rooftop power system on its terminal, media reports said.
It is reported that the French oil major will establish a 600 kilowatts peak (kWp) solar system on the rooftop of several buildings of the terminal owned by SLNG and operate them. The installation of the system will be completed by the end of fourth quarter.
Tan Soo Koong, CEO of SLNG, told the media, “SLNG is also exploring ways to speed up the use of LNG and other green energy alternatives. For one, we are looking into collaborations to develop new infrastructure in Singapore to promote the use of LNG as a cleaner marine fuel. “For another, we are working with various partners to develop technologies related to the importation, transportation and storage of hydrogen.”
The system expects to produce around 800 megawatt hours (MWh) of renewable energy and can reduce 300 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions a year. Moreover, the system intends to produce at least two gigawatts of peak power by 2030 as part of its solar target. Earlier, the company produced 260 megawatt-peak in the second quarter of 2019.
It is reported that Singapore depends on imported natural gas to generate electricity and solar energy is the next feasible method of energy generation for the country.
