Cellulant introduces digital payments platform Tingg in Zambia

Tingg offers simplified payment tools and processes for a merchant to manage their payments for goods and services

African payments company Cellulant is all set to solve the payment fragmentation issue in Zambia by introducing a digital payment platform Tingg which will help enable seamless payments for its customers. Currently, there are several mobile payment avenues available in Zambia as mobile operators are locked in a battle for market share. This means retailers are forced to manage multiple payment experiences from different mobile money networks.

Gilbert Lungu, Country Manager for Cellulant Zambia told the media, “Today, roughly 50 percent of retail customers request to pay for their purchases using digital payment options. Therefore, for all businesses – small, medium, large- digitising their payments has moved from a good to have to a game-changer in what has become the new norm. However, this demand presents several challenges for most merchants who might not always support the customer’s preferred payment method, resulting in merchants having to enable multiple solutions to support multiple wallets. We want to partner with these businesses and make it easy for them to conveniently and affordably accept payments with fewer hoops.”

By providing a single integrated solutions platform, Tingg offers simplified payment tools and processes for a merchant to manage their payments for goods and services with the help of locally relevant options.

Cellulant is present in over 18 African countries and its payments platform connects thousands of businesses that offer a wide range of payment solutions across 35 countries. More than 70 percent of businesses in Africa are small or medium and they act as the backbone of the country’s economy and for other countries as well. Even then, 90 percent of these businesses collect payments in cash and lack digital payments options that cater to their customers. Cellulant primarily aims to change this by leveraging its digital payments platform to boost growth for the retail sector.
