Telecom Egypt to roll out subsea system

The HARP will offer various capacity solutions such as dark fibre, based on different architecture layers that can connect several points on the system to one another

Telecom Egypt will roll out a new subsea system, Hybrid African Ring Path (HARP) by 2023. The company’s terrestrial and subsea infrastructure will connect Africa’s East and West bounds to Europe.

The HARP will offer various capacity solutions such as dark fibre, based on different architecture layers that can connect several points on the system to one another. Furthermore, the system will spread from South Africa to Italy and France along Europe’s East Coast, and to Portugal along the West Coast.

The landing points of the system will be connected within Egypt, South Africa and Europe through the highly reliable terrestrial routes. Telecom Egypt has registered a consolidated net profit of E£4.58 billion last year, compared to E£4.39 billion the year earlier. While, the company recorded a standalone profit of E£2.16 billion last year, compared to E£5.43 billion a year earlier.

Adel Hamed, TE’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, told the media, “I am very proud of the upcoming launch of this new system, as it will provide seamless connectivity services to the African continent by integrating Telecom Egypt’s current and planned projects to offer end-to-end connectivity solutions. HARP will enable Telecom Egypt’s plans to establish open points of presence in various new locations in Africa and Europe to serve its enterprise and wholesale customers. It will also support the digital transformation efforts exerted throughout African nations, and expand the company’s international footprint.”

The company has been successfully handling its operations amid the pandemic which hampered the telecommunication segments like any other segment.
