China ramps up 5G network establishment as it gears up for commercial launch

This year, 119 out of 197 new smartphone models released in China were 5G phones

China has completed building 480,000 out of its 500,000 proposed 5G base stations, fastening the country’s 5G network ambitions amid the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic, media reports said.

The world’s second largest economy’s efforts towards 5G mark a tremendous achievement, pushing
other countries to ramp up their development for the next-gen wireless network.

It is reported that 100 million devices have access to 5G networks in China’s prime cities. The information was provided by the country’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

Furthermore, the information also said that there were more than 60 million 5G users in the
country.

The 5G network has been labelled as the tool for the Internet of Things (IoT), self-driving cars, smart cities and other new mobile applications because of its ultra-connectivity speed which is way advanced than the current 4G network.

For China, launching 5G network is a matter of dominance over the next-gen network arena as it
competes with the US. The 5G network will help China to boost its development in the artificial intelligence, 5G mobile technology, and IoT space which are vital to remain afloat in the global market.

It is reported that a South China tech company achieved full coverage of a stand-alone 5G network which don’t rely on 4G infrastructure. However, its not clear whether the development will cater the remotest areas of the city.

119 out of 197 new smartphone models released in China were 5G phones this year. The
information is provided by the China Academy of Information and Communication Technology
(CAICT).
