GenCell Energy provides G5 long-duration backup solution to European telecom

The company will install a smooth, cost-efficient and reliable supply of hydrogen cylinders to the cell tower

Israel-based GenCell Energy will carry out a significant development to help one of Europe’s tier-one telecom providers to spur their ambitious carbon reduction targets, media reports said. The development will reduce the carbon emissions of 5G services.

Diana Buss, senior vice president communications, Messer, told the media, “As we see increasing regulations aiming to eliminate carbon emissions and to accelerate the transition to clean energy sources throughout Europe and around the globe, more customers are showing interest in moving to hydrogen as well as to the ultimate hydrogen carrier, ammonia. We are excited to collaborate with GenCell to leverage this and other opportunities to provide resilient, cost-effective and emission-free hydrogen-based fuel cell solutions that ensure reliable backup and off-grid power.”

It is reported that the development will see the tier one telecom provider deploying the Israeli company’s G5 long-duration backup solution. With that, GenCell Energy will install a smooth, cost- efficient and reliable supply of hydrogen cylinders to the cell tower site which was acquired from Germany’s Essar, as part of the development.

The tier one telecom will be able to monitor equipment status to ensure optimal performance by using the GenCell IoT remote management software. The tier one telecom seeks to expand its footprint across the renewable energy space following the investments in solar and wind-powered base stations.

European telecom providers require efficient, failsafe backup power sources during outages because they operate thousands of remote cell sites on the continent and globally. These cell sites often experience instability and outages.
