New MoU will ensure industrial training for Nigerian youth in Europe

Given the opportunity for additional skill development and employment in Europe, enrollment in diploma programmes at polytechnics in Nigeria may expand

Nigeria will start exporting its skilled labour force to Europe and other parts of the world, as part of the Nigerian Youths Skills Empowerment (NYSE) Program, stated by the African country’s National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

The NBTE’s head of media, Hajiya Fatima Abubakar, stated in a statement in Kaduna city that the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) will support the training of young Nigerians in vital industrial skills with appropriate certification.

According to Hajiya Fatima Abubakar, the Nigerian youth will receive training in electrical apprenticeships in Denmark and Poland by European Union Skill Qualifications Standards.

The official also claimed that this would make it easier for skilled workers from her country to migrate to Europe and other countries legally.

Hajiya Fatima Abubakar also declared that the NBTE would formally sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ERYK Group, a global technical service provider that provides assembly, installation, and commissioning services for mechanical and electrical systems.

According to Hajiya Fatima Abubakar, the MoU would be inked on March 29, 2023 in Abuja as part of the rollout of the NYSE programme, which the country’s Federal Government had approved in January 2022.

Hajiya Fatima Abubakar said, “The MoU would facilitate skills training for holders of the Nigerian National Diploma who pass an online assessment or Computer-Based Examination organised by NBTE, with ERYK bearing the cost of training.”

The MoU also intends to enhance employment opportunities for polytechnic graduates who complete the NYSE programme.

To become European Certified Skilled Personnel with Relevant Work Experience under ERYK, individuals will receive an apprenticeship programme in Europe through the project.

Given the opportunity for additional skill development and employment in Europe, enrollment in diploma programmes at polytechnics in Nigeria may expand.

The NBTE spokesperson also stated that graduates of the apprenticeship programme would be free to return to Nigeria after training to impart their expertise and improve society there.

Hajiya Fatima Abubakar also said that Dr Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labor, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, and Adamu Adamu, the Minister of Education, will all be gracing the event for the MoU signing.

Sune Krogstrup, the Danish ambassador to Nigeria, and Joanna Tarawska, the Polish ambassador, are also anticipated to attend the event, according to Hajiya Fatima Abubakar.
