Dangote refinery plans to launch refined petroleum products in 2021

The company’s products from its fertilisation plants will be available from this month

Nigeria’s Dangote refinery aims to roll out refined petroleum products from its under-construction refiner to be commercially available next year, media reports said. The refinery is expected to produce 650,000 of oil per day. Furthermore, the company’s products from its fertilisation plants will be available from this month.

Mr. Devakumar Edwin, the executive director, Strategy, Capital Projects and Portfolio Development, Dangote refinery, told the media, “The refinery has reached 80 per cent completion, adding that engineering and construction were 100 percent over while procurement was 98 per cent ready. If you look at the overall percentage completion, we are at 80 per cent. But that overall includes engineering and design, which is 100 percent over. Procurement is about 98 per cent over. So, it covers various aspects. But the core activity which is going on today is construction. So, now, we hope to complete everything – all the assembling by the middle of next year. Then, we will start the commissioning process. Middle of next year, we start the commissioning process, and it’s a huge refinery, the commissioning process may take three to four months.”

It is reported that the basic principle of the country’s demand and supply for oil depends upon the impact of the refinery on the price of petrol in the country.

Mr Devakumar Edwin said that oil prices will come down with the surge in refining capacity and supply of petroleum products.

Nigeria’s oil and gas refinery sector has been receiving support from global companies as the country faces shortage of funds due to underdevelopment.
