The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and Parkin Company PJSC (Parkin), the largest supplier of paid public parking facilities and services in Dubai, have updated their partnership on electric vehicle (EV) charging.
In the first quarter of 2025, DEWA plans to install new charging stations as part of the first phase of this sustainability initiative. With a 22 kW x 2 capacity, these stations will run on alternating current (AC) and will be strategically positioned throughout Parkin’s premium parking lots.
Each charging station will serve two parking spots. Specific on-street parking spaces in zones A and C have been carefully chosen to house the new charging stations. These locations are situated in densely populated residential areas with limited to no access to EV charging stations. Customers will be able to use the Parkin app and its associated digital wallet to pay both the parking fee and the EV charging tariff in a single, seamless transaction.
Through this strategic partnership, the overall number of DEWA EV Green Charger stations in Dubai will increase, providing consumers who live or work in the city with easy access to EV charging infrastructure. The added convenience for end-users will enhance overall operational efficiency and revenue potential by encouraging more people to use the parking spots next to the EV chargers.
“We continue to strengthen green mobility by encouraging the use of eco-friendly electric vehicles to reduce carbon emissions from the transport sector. This aligns with the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030 and the Dubai Social Agenda 33, which aim to make Dubai the city offering the best living experience,” stated Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA.
“Our partnership with Parkin to install EV Green Chargers is part of our efforts to provide advanced EV charging infrastructure in Dubai, delivering a seamless experience through charging facilities equipped with state-of-the-art, innovative technologies. These initiatives support the UAE’s climate goals and solidify Dubai’s position as a leading global destination to live, work, and invest in,” the official added.
Discussing the UAE’s EV ambitions, Sharif Al Olama, Under-Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, recently stated that the Gulf country aims to install over 500 charging stations by the end of 2025 to support clean transportation and reduce carbon emissions.
Speaking on the sidelines of the World Governments Summit, which took place in February 2025, Al Olama said the ministry, which owns 50% of UAEV, installed more than 100 EV chargers across the country in 2024 and is rapidly expanding the network to meet the growing EV demand. He further added that the ministry aims to increase renewable energy capacity to over 14 gigawatts by 2030 as part of its commitment to clean energy development.
