Telecom Egypt establishes the largest data centre in the country

The data centre is expected to be operational by next year

Telecom Egypt (TE) has established Egypt’s largest data centre, media reports said. The move by the telecom operator is part of its business expansion plan.

The telecom operator has been successfully implementing the project amid the exceptional circumstances and economic repercussions imposed by the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic.

It is reported that international submarine cable systems that have landing points in the country will be connected to the data centre. The data centre will be rewarded with Uptime Institute Tier III certificates. It is expected to be operational by next year as there has been no impact on the established plan or the construction plan. There will be a capacity for 2000 cabins equipped to host data in four buildings.

The data centre is located inside a small village which is filled with R&D facilities, banks, educational institutions, local and foreign companies.

Telecom Egypt, told the media, “The new International Data Centre is connected to the company’s 10 cable landing points located on the Mediterranean and the Red Sea coasts. It means that it will be connected to more than 60 countries around the world. With its outstanding capabilities, the centre targets telecom service providers, cloud computing providers, and institutions keen to obtain the best exceptional data centre services. The services take into account the best risk management standards and the least data transmission time.”

For now, there are six data centres at a number of locations in Greater Cairo and Alexandria which run under Telecom Egypt. The telecom operator is exploring new opportunities to establish more data centres.
