Toyota partners with Amazon for Cloud-based platform

The platform will help Toyota manage and monetise data from cars around the world

Amazon and Toyota Motor have entered into a partnership in which the American company’s cloud computing unit will assist the Japanese carmaker’s to develop a platform for its global vehicle fleet, media reports said. It is reported that the platform will help manage and monetise data from cars around the world.

The new deal marks the expansion of partnership sealed by Amazon’s web services (AWS) with Toyota Motors. Moreover, the deal also indicates Amazon’s intentions of entering the transportation business sector.

According to Toyota Motors, the platform is designed for mobility services to analyse and process car data. Furthermore, the data will be used to created vehicle services such as ride and car sharing to behaviour-based insurance and maintenance notifications.

Earlier this year, AWS extended its partnership with premium carmakers, Volkswagen to help them develop the cloud-based software and data portal. The partnership has helped the German company to afloat in an industry-wide marketplace where business customers can buy and sell industrial applications.

There are many other companies which have partnered with AWA for new developments. The companies include automotive suppliers such as Aptiv, Panasonic and others such as Nvidia, Aptiv, Uber, Avis, Embark and TuSimple.

In the US, Toyota has made many changes to its corporate leadership team in the past one year. The company plans to announce more changes this week as it looks to restructure US operations. Amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Toyota is looking to expand its businesses across the world.
